description | Measures of parental sex preference on contraceptive acceptance has been constructed using a multiplicative model. These measures avoid some of the arbitrariness in the computation of similar measures proponed by Arnold (1985) and Chowdhuri and Bairagi (1988). The model is generalized to facilitate computation of simultaneous effects of the number of male and female children and family size on contraceptive use. The models were applied to the data from the 1980 Kerala Fertility Survey. The results showed significant influence of family size in accepting contraceptive use. Once family size is controlled, the contraceptive acceptance is high among large families with all female children. |
