Zusammenfassung:A method is described to measure the speed of sound and the temperature in the sea as functions of depth. Backscattered laser light is analyzed with an interferometric spectrometer. The speed of sound at very short acoustic wavelengths is obtained directly from the wavelength shift of the Brillouin scattered light, and the temperature is deduced from the speed of sound together with auxiliary information on depth and salinity. Experiments are described.
