The effect of toxic components in tobacco smoke on the fatty acid profile of dental pulp

The aim of the present study was to characterize fatty acid profile of dental pulp in non-smokers' and tobacco-smokers' with acute serous pulpitis. The fatty acid composition in the pulp of molars, pre-molars and chisel tooth in 80 tobacco-smokers and 60 non-smokers were analyzed by Gas-Ch...

description The aim of the present study was to characterize fatty acid profile of dental pulp in non-smokers' and tobacco-smokers' with acute serous pulpitis. The fatty acid composition in the pulp of molars, pre-molars and chisel tooth in 80 tobacco-smokers and 60 non-smokers were analyzed by Gas-Chromatography with glass capillary colums. Linolic acid was revealed in both - tobacco-smokers and non-smokers; the concentration of linolic acid in tooth pulp of non-smokers was significantly higher. Non-smokers' tooth pulp contained linolic, linolenic and arachidonic acids; tobacco-smokers' - only linolic acid. The linolenic and arachidonic acids in pulp of tobacco-smokers were not discovered.
