The phylogenetic analysis also indicated that the genera Bodo, Cryptobia, Leptomonas, Herpetomonas, Crithidia, and Blastocrithidia are polyphyletic. The results suggested that parasitism of vertebrates has probably arisen independently a number of times within the Trypanosomatidae.
