Zusammenfassung: | A fatal case of infection with Angiostrongylus cantonensis is reported in a 14-month-old Jamaican boy. Although infection with Angiostrongylus was not considered initially, sections of multiple worms were observed in the brain and lungs at autopsy and confirmed the infection. This is the first reported fatality due to this infection in the Western Hemisphere, and follows shortly after an outbreak of eosinophilic meningitis among a group of travelers to Jamaica. The source of infection in this case could not be determined. |
