What is remarkable about Language and Social Reality is that Wieder produced one of the few ethnographies in which only real events lead the commentary. He describes a moral order as a continuous ongoing process, rather than as a set of stable elements of culture (1974, p. 221). It is sociology made difcult, but made real.
