Zusammenfassung: | Literature plays a major role in making a city what it is, in building its imaginary profile, & in telling its story. Migrant writing provides an inside view of the process of acculturation, of the construction of the migrant identity, & of urban identity. After a discussion of the concepts of "migrant identity," "urban identity," & "migrant writing," the migrant literature of several French-speaking areas is analyzed, focusing on the interaction of fictional work with analysis &/or research work among migrant writers. This paper examines the contribution of these writers to the construction of the city's images, of readings, representations, & interpretations, as well as their fight to restore, enhance, & perpetuate the memory of immigrants & that of urban & peri-urban areas where they have settled & worked. 69 References.
