Zusammenfassung: | The "new security threats" defined by the Europeans in the post-cold war era strongly concern the maritime milieu, due to the jurisdictional freedom & the porous nature of the frontiers at sea. We can notably pick out maritime terrorism, transnational criminality & illegal migration, & finally maritime pollution & threats to marine resources. Our study demonstrates that the flexible, versatile & interoperable European naval forces respond relatively well to these threats. Nevertheless, to be really efficient, police & constabulary tasks require a high degree of cooperation both at national & international level. Adapted from the source document. |
