Zusammenfassung:In N. Chomsky's & M. Halle's framework (see LLBA IV/2, p. 545), the features [anterior], [coronal], [high], & [back] are used, but the evidence in Baule supports the alternate system proposed by Jakobson, Fant, & Halle (Preliminaries to Speech Analysis, Technical Report No 13, Acoustic Laboratory, MIT, Cambridge, Mass: MIT Press, 1952.) using the acoustic feature [grave]. In Baule, labials cluster with velars & alveolars with palatals, a pattern which is revealed more by use of the feature [grave]. Chomsky's & Halle's features fail to capture sound changes involving these groupings. T. Lamb
