The National Register of Archives and Manuscripts : a piper's lament or a pipe dream

Records in detail the life history of the register (NRAM) which was first discussed in 1954, and was a scheme whereby the country's archives and manuscripts repositories would co-operate to contribute to and produce a union list, catalogue, or register. The first installment was published in Feb 1979, and the last in Aug 1993.
