description AI and Translog are popular models in empirical demand literature. In this paper we present a generalised model (GAITL) which nests both and, moreover, the Lewbel (1989) demand system. Estimation and statistical testing based on Italian household data suggests rejection of both in favour of the GAITL, also when demographic effects are considered.
