Changing Visions of East Asia, 1943-93: Transformations and Continuities

For years his Special Subject on the Vietnam War, which he periodically revised as his thinking evolved, was one of the most popular in the undergraduate programme of London University's federal History degree. The idea for this book had come to Smith in November 1993 when Bill Clinton convened in Seattle a meeting of the leaders of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation).
