description Present paper covers two-body and three-body abrasive wear properties of chromium carbide based cermets produced by different methods and with different chemical compositions (10-30% of Ni). Cermets were made by a novel method - reactive sintering and reference material by traditional cermets producing route. Abrasive wear rate increases with increase in binder content in case of both investigated abrasive wear method. Better wear resistance exhibited cermets produced by reactive sintering due to the higher hardness rate of those cermets. The study of wear mechanism was carried out by different methods. The wear mechanism of chromium carbide based cermets is mainly dependent on the chemical composition (carbide to binder ratio) and stress conditions. Material is removed by several processes which scale the process of craters and grooves formation including the brittle cracking of carbide grains and carbide network.
