Suicide risk evaluation among homeless veterans accessing VA health care

•Homelessness during suicide risk screening and evaluation was rare (1.43 %).•Veterans experiencing homelessness were 5 times more likely to be evaluated for suicide.•These Veterans were also more likely to be at high risk (acute and/or chronic) for suicide.
