Zusammenfassung: | To produce antifouling paints with reduced toxicants levels, it is necessary to further investigate the phenomena which have a decisive role in antifouling activity. Among them, two were proved to be essential: the presence of biocides and the erosion. Nevertheless, analytical tools for the evaluation of these characteristics of paints film need to be developed. For that purpose, we use scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). Recent developments in these non-invasive techniques enable to obtain qualitative and quantitative data about the erosion, the distribution of active molecules in the film and its becoming during immersion. This microscopic investigation was concluded by an optimisation of the coatings formulations by reducing the amount of biocides, by modifying their chemical structures and physico-chemical properties and by increasing their distribution in the film. |
