Zusammenfassung:The growing use of CAE in vehicle development - driven by the need to reduce development time and cost - imposes numerical results to gain in precision. The increasing responsibility that is being passed to CAE has required the implementation of a quality system, one goal of which is to guarantee the quality of the input material data. This paper demonstrates the role of the quality of material properties in the CAE process in three steps: (1) The measurement of material properties for CAE in the frame of a global material release process involving the storage of the data in a central database (MARLIS) (2) The transition from material properties to CAE-data, with for instance the modification of these properties to account for local effects from stamping (3) The simulation of body-in-white, chassis and component functions like stiffness, strength, durability or impact with special focus on the sensitivity of the results on the scatter of material properties, that is robustness.
