Optical spectroscopy of (candidate) ultra-compact X-ray binaries

We present (preliminary) results of our systematic spectroscopic study of (candidate) ultra-compact X-ray binaries. Most candidates are confirmed and we found the first optical spectra of (pure) carbon-oxygen accretion discs.
