The relationship between sensitization to these dust allergens and heart rate variability was explored using multivariate logistic regression. Findings The multivariate analyses showed that sensitization to total allergens was associated with reduced levels of SDNN, RMSSD, LF and HF and with increased levels of the LF/HF ratio in the patients with COPD (p < .05). Conclusion Dust allergen sensitization may be associated with cardiac autonomic dysfunction in patients with COPD. Whether desensitization can prevent cardiovascular complications in these patients should be further explored.
