Effect of hydrogen on the solidification velocity of highly undercooled nickel

The solidification velocity of undercooled nickel was measured in electromagnetic levitation under two different cooling gas environments, and residual gas concentrations were quantified in processed samples. Zusammenfassung:The solidification velocity of undercooled nickel was measured in electromagnetic levitation under two different cooling gas environments, and residual gas concentrations were quantified in processed samples. Significant quantities of hydrogen were measured suggesting that hydrogen causes historically observed deviations from theoretically predicted solidification velocity at high undercoolings.
