Rotor Size and Mass – The Dilemma for Designers of Wind Turbine Generating Systems

A specific type of rotor blade based on a spar/shell construction is considered generically in order to derive the fundamental relationship between size and length. The model's predictions are then compared with blades currently available and the implications are considered for new designs.
