description The effects of rare earth (RE) elements on properties and microstructure of WC-14TiC-8Co cemented carbide have been investigated. By adding RE, the characteristics such as bending strength and impact-resistance were greatly improved. The existence form and distribution of RE in cemented carbide have also been studied by means of SEM and TEM. The results have been used to elucidate the strengthening mechanism of RE in WC-14TiC-8Co alloy.
