Zusammenfassung:Industrialization and urbanization of coastal wetlands have caused metal pollution worldwide. Phytoremediation has been widely used for treating soil and water pollution, and halophytes are considered a promising remediation method to address metal pollution. However, application of halophytes in phytoremediation is still in its infancy. To increase awareness of halophytes, the metal accumulation, tolerance, and mechanisms of metal detoxification in halophytes are reviewed here. Several halophytes are considered as potential candidates for phytoremediation because they have strong accumulation capacity of metals.
