Local tunneling spectroscopy of n-PbTe surface

Using the low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope (LTSTM) the surface of PbTe single crystals doped by Pb and In have been studied. The space distributions of the band edges E v, E c and energy gap E g have been measured. At some points of the PbTe〈In〉 surface the hysteresis of d I/d V( V) dep...

description Using the low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope (LTSTM) the surface of PbTe single crystals doped by Pb and In have been studied. The space distributions of the band edges E v, E c and energy gap E g have been measured. At some points of the PbTe〈In〉 surface the hysteresis of d I/d V( V) dependencies have been observed. The hysteresis is explained by the effect of the electron capturing by In dopant centers. The non-regular oscillation structure of PbTe〈In〉 local tunneling spectra have been observed. The resembling structure of the local tunneling spectra of high- T c superconductors, normal metals and bilayer of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine on graphite substrate have been observed too. We suppose that it is a general phenomenon at the tunneling spectra of the local tunneling contacts connected with the single-electron effects.
