description An Li sub(2)CO sub(3)/Na sub(2)CO sub(3)/K sub(2)CO sub(3) eutectic melt has been taken as a typical example of a molten carbonate system, and the dissolution behaviour of the oxides of nickel and copper in the melt have been investigated at 873 K. The solubility products of CuO and NiO in the melt have been estimated to be 8.9 x 10 super(-9) mol super(2) l super(-2) and 3.8 ( plus or minus 0.6) x 10 super(-10) mol super(2) l super(-2), respectively. The diffusion coefficients of Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions in the melt are approximately 7.2 x 10 super(-5) cm super(2) s super(-1) and 2.2( plus or minus 0.5) x 10 super(-5) cm super(2) s super(-1), respectively.
