Early in the pandemic (April 2020), the median number of major digestive surgeries performed monthly declined from 20 cases (range. 3‐100 cases) to 1 case (range. 0‐10 cases) (P < .001; Wilcoxon signed‐rank test). Most of the cases in April 2020 addressed emergency problems, but more definitive surgeries were performed during the later period of the survey. The importance of screening for COVID‐19 with polymerase chain reaction has increased over time, and a more comprehensive screening methodology incorporating real‐time polymerase chain reaction, chest CT, and rapid antibody test were evident in 31.37% of July 2020 responses.
Conclusion
Our survey has shown that surgeons adapted to the evolving pandemic and continue to do so only with appropriate safety assurances.</description><identifier>ISSN: 1758-5902</identifier><identifier>EISSN: 1758-5910</identifier><identifier>DOI: 10.1111/ases.12913</identifier><identifier>PMID: 33401334</identifier><language>eng</language><publisher>Kyoto, Japan: John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd</publisher><subject>COVID-19 ; digestive surgery ; online survey ; Pandemics ; Polymerase chain reaction ; Surgeons ; Surgery</subject><ispartof>Asian journal of endoscopic surgery, 2021-07, Vol.14 (3), p.540-547</ispartof><rights>2020 Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, Asia Endosurgery Task Force and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd</rights><rights>2020 Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, Asia Endosurgery Task Force and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.</rights><rights>2021 Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, Asia Endosurgery Task Force and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd</rights><lds50>peer_reviewed</lds50><oa>free_for_read</oa><woscitedreferencessubscribed>false</woscitedreferencessubscribed><citedby>FETCH-LOGICAL-c4173-51722ef8d4beaa8f293faa7770b43051b3c875a649a4cf67adfa7b783c04c4a83</citedby><cites>FETCH-LOGICAL-c4173-51722ef8d4beaa8f293faa7770b43051b3c875a649a4cf67adfa7b783c04c4a83</cites><orcidid>0000-0001-9066-8685 ; 0000-0003-0256-1955</orcidid></display><links><openurl>$$Topenurl_article</openurl><openurlfulltext>$$Topenurlfull_article</openurlfulltext><thumbnail>$$Tsyndetics_thumb_exl</thumbnail><linktopdf>$$Uhttps://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111%2Fases.12913$$EPDF$$P50$$Gwiley$$H</linktopdf><linktohtml>$$Uhttps://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111%2Fases.12913$$EHTML$$P50$$Gwiley$$H</linktohtml><link.rule.ids>314,777,781,1412,27905,27906,45555,45556</link.rule.ids><backlink>$$Uhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/33401334$$D View this record in MEDLINE/PubMed$$Hfree_for_read</backlink></links><search><creatorcontrib>Nugroho, Adianto</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Arifin, Fransicus</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Wibowo, Agung Ary</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Handaya, A.
