Zusammenfassung:Community-based rehabilitation is an approach that draws from primary health care and typically includes the provision of rehabilitation assistance in the community through the adaptation and "upskilling" of local, often informal resources; family members; and intermediate-level workers. Within this model, it is acknowledged that the base from which a client's participation can best be maximized is the client's home and community, where he or she engages in local daily activities. This chapter outlines the historical origins and current evolving context of community-based rehabilitation. Rehabilitation psychologists need to be well informed about the scope of community-based rehabilitation to work alongside their multi-disciplinary colleagues, clients and family, and other stakeholders in addressing the challenges generated by the complexity and disparities they will encounter. They also need to be innovative and astute frontline researchers to build rigorous evidence that will influence policy and the future directions of rehabilitation psychology.
