Serum protein electrophoresis and complement deficiencies: a veteran but very versatile test in clinical laboratories

Serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) is used in clinical practice as a first step to identify and monitor patients with multiple myeloma and other serum protein disorders, in addition to other complementary and confirmatory tests [1]. It is a widely accessible, inexpensive, easy-to-perform test.
