This study aims to analyze the distribution of oak formations within the Galician territory and attempts a classification of these formations based on a series of discriminant parameters. Twenty-eight ecological parameters were used to characterize the biotope, and 14 parameters were used to characterize the studied oak forests from the perspective of forest mensuration and silviculture. By using Twinspan software, the selected method enabled a two-way classification of different plots that were randomly sampled. Any plot can be automatically incorporated into this classification until the whole study area is classified.
