Zusammenfassung: | The year 1987 is the tricentennial of John Tulley's first almanac, which included prognostics of tempests, winds, rain, fair weather, and eclipses. It also contained data on sunrise, moon phases, and days of lunar month calculated and fitted to the meridian of Boston in New England. The format was similar to that still used in farmers' almanacs. The almanac was constructed by John Tulley, of Saybrook, CT., recognized as ``America's First Weather Forecaster'' (David Ludlum). A short biographical account of Tulley, of his subsequent almanacs and their contents, and of his attitude toward his forecasting ability is presented. Some pages from Tulley's almanac are included. |
