The comparison of neutral component temperature with 630 nm (OI) emission intensity in the region of SAR-arcs

Zusammenfassung: | The simultaneous photometric and interferometric measurements for five events of stable middle latitudinal red arcs (SAR-arcs) at station Maimaga (F∼63°, L∼129° are geographic coordinates, F
c∼56.5°, L
c∼200° are geomagnetic ones) are presented. The spatial position and intensity of SAR-arcs were monitored by a meridional scanning photometer. The neutral component temperature was recorded with the help of the Fabry-Perot interferometer, having the field of view of 2° and directed at the zenith angle of 10° southward; the exposure time varied from 15 to 30 min. The results have shown that temperature rise in arc correlates with the total intensity maximum in the arc. The temperature in the arc increases 1–2 hours after the increase in 630.0 nm emission intensity, caused by nonstationary magnetic disturbances (substorm activity), thus indicating a relationship between the temperature and ionospheric heating in the region of SAR-arcs. |
