Zusammenfassung:The International Workshop on Remote Sensing in Geophysics Using Doppler Techniques was held on 11-15 March 1996 in Bellagio, Italy, at the Rockefeller Study and Conference Center. Supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, the workshop brought together a small number of expert researchers working in different application areas of Doppler remote sensing. Actually, Doppler remote sensing is employed in a wide range of applications, from atmospheric boundary layer sensing to wind profiling, from sea surface sensing to radar astronomy. Such different applications face different challenges, which sometimes lead to development of very different techniques. This report summarizes communications given at the workshop, many of which have been updated to account for later results. The range of topics included: Who was Doppler?, Meteorological radar simulation, Boundary layer Doppler radar, Radar astronomy, Seismic prospecting techniques, A review of Doppler surface wave radar in the oceanic environment, On the use of Doppler spectral widths to determine strengths of atmospheric turbulence, Development of radar measurement principles with incoherent scatter radar, Radar interferometer and postbeam steering: Experimental and instrumental fundamentals, PC-based Doppler radar signal processing, Parameter estimation of precipitating atmosphere using MST radar technique, Shape estimation of underground objects using ground penetration radar, Comparison of Doppler signal processing techniques: Radar-lidar-sodar, Coherent lidar for Doppler measurements in the atmosphere, Inverse methods for ocean-wave measurement with HF radar, Simultaneous Doppler and polarimetric measurements, and Design and signal processing techniques of the NEXRAD system.
