Investigating the feasibility of short-duration hot water treatments for apple disinfestation

Reports on a study that determined the mortality of a range of pests (greedy scale (Hemiberlesia rapax), latania scale (H. lataniae), onion thrips (Thrips tabaci), apple leafcurling midge (Dasineeura mali) and obsure mealybugs (Pseudococcus viburni)) and the effect on fruit of three apple cultivars ('Royal Gala', 'Fuji', and 'Braeburn') after hot water treatments of 49.5, 51.0 or 52.5°C for either 1,2 or 3 minutes.
