description A study investigated the spatial position of the Kiama inverse magnetization zone in the oceanic crust of the Eastern Mediterranean. The obtained data have both important theoretical and practical significance for paleogeodynamic recon structions and tectonic zonation, and for prognosis and search for hydrocarbon deposits. For instance, already now we can suggest that the oceanic depres sion with the Permian crust may be covered by Triassic associations of depression saliferous and reef complexes. Essential is the fact that directly over the discovered Kiama zone in the Eastern Mediterranean is situated the large gas deposit Leviathan 1 (well No. 39 in Fig. 2), where drilling of a superdeep borehole to the depth of 9.5 km for the oil deposit localization is supposed.
