Towards the rational design of antimalarial drugs

Methods for preparing synthetic ï¿½-haematin, the chemical mechanism of ï¿½-haematin formation in aqueous acetate solution and the mode of action of chloroquine and related quinoline antimalarial drugs are briefly reviewed in the light of recently reported findings.
