Zusammenfassung:This article presents the results of a correlation study in which reading comprehension, lexical competence and academic performance were measured. We postulate, that the quality of readers' lexical knowledge is related to their ability to understand texts and, therefore, it affects their academic performance. A study was conducted with 32 high school last grade individuals. The subjects yielded a reading comprehension test, a passive vocabulary test (TEVI-R) and a lexical decision test with chronometric technique. The results indicate that the quality of the response in lexical decision test correlates with performance on reading comprehension, whereas passive vocabulary correlates with general academic performance.
