description The arterial blood pressure (ABP) and glycaemia can be controlled by the combination of regular physical exercise (PE) and drugs. Thus, the aim of the present study was to verify the acute (before and after a single session of PE) and chronic (after 12 weeks of training) effects of CTW or walking exercise training (WET) on capillary glucose (CG), arterial blood pressure, and physical fitness of elderly women. Twenty-three diabetic-hypertensive subjects, who were medicated with beta-blockers or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, were subjected to WET (n = 9) and to CWT (n = 14) three times a week, intensity of 40 to 60% of maximum heart rate, and 11 to 13 scores related to Borg scale. In relation to chronic exercise, it was also observed reductions in CG concentrations, being: CWT: from 92+ or -12 to 84+ or -10; and WET: from 97 + or - 10 to 86 + or - 6 (P< or =0.05).
