Zusammenfassung: | This essay explores appropriations of Roman senatorial figures in the age of German unification under the Prussian monarchy (1871). Examining receptions of Cicero and Caesar, as well as the German critique of the senatorial order, the study focuses on appropriations that played a role in shaping ideals of civic identity in the context of elite secondary education. The analysis includes comparisons with American receptions and helps to illuminate the evolution of Imperial Germany's civic culture. (Author abstract) |
