Zusammenfassung:•Quantitative LEED analysis of epitaxial Fe(110) film on W(110).•Surface relaxation in 20-ML Fe/W(110) markedly different from those at the bulk Fe(110) surface.•A strong anisotropic character of the surface vibrations for epitaxial Fe(110) films has been point out. The near-surface structural properties of epitaxial Fe(110) films on W(110) were studied using quantitative low-energy electron diffraction analysis. A discernible, up to 1%, relaxation of the outermost atomic layers was found, in contrast to the bulk Fe(110) surface, which shows almost no relaxation.
