Zusammenfassung:► Inhibition efficiencies of hexane-1,6-diamine, 2-mercapto-ethanol was investigated. ► Their mixture exhibited extra ordinary protection efficiency. ► A self-assembled film is performed on the surface. ► The film thickness can get higher than 0.50μm. ► The protection efficiency of 98.22% is obtained after 7 days. The inhibition efficiencies of hexane-1,6-diamine (HMDA), 2-mercapto-ethanol (ME) and a mixture of these two compounds have been investigated against copper corrosion, in acidic chloride solution. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) measurements were utilized to study the inhibition mechanism. ME was shown to have higher efficiency than HMDA, also their mixture could exhibit extra ordinary protection efficiency. It was shown that this excellent efficiency is a result of self-assembled film on the surface. The surface analysis showed that the film has high surface roughness and its thickness can get higher than 0.50μm. After 7 days exposure time to corrosive environment, the corrosion current (icorr) values were calculated and it was shown that self assembled film had 98.22% protection efficiency.
