Zusammenfassung:The current results of laboratory tests used for evaluating the wear mechanisms of MgO-C bricks for the slag line of steel ladles at Usiminas (Ipatinga) are presented and discussed. The laboratory evaluations indicated that the wear of refractory lining derived from an association of phenomena such as: (i) carbon oxidation and subsequently refractory matrix corrosion, (ii) erosion in superficial layers, and (iii) spalling.
