Zusammenfassung:Dry powder of a green alga, Enteromorpha linza was found to be most useful for inducing beta -1,3-xylanase in the culture fluid of Vibrio sp. AX-4. The enzyme was partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and successive Shephadex G-100 column chromatography. The active fractions were pooled and concentrated to 0.85 unit/ml. We tried to isolate protoplast from Porphyra tenera var. tamatsuensis by using the enzyme mixture containing this beta -1,3-xylanase and were able to obtain a large number of protoplast from the algal thalli.
