description The use of microbe as bioactive compounds sources has several advantages such as reducing the production time and avoiding over exploitation of marine resources. Previous research has shown that a number of microbes associated with sponges produced potential bioactive compounds, including marine fungi MFW 26-08. The objectives of this research are to optimize the cultivation of the MFW 26-08 and its production of bioactive compounds. Optimization was conducted using 3 liquid mediums, i.e Malt Extract Broth (MEB), Glucose Peptone Yeast (GPY), and Minimal Fungal Media (MFM); and cultivation lime of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 weeks. Results showed that MFW 26-08 crude extract of 2 week-MFM cultivation, at concentration of 30 mu g/mL, was able to inhibit 89% T47D (breast cancer) cell growth. While in concentration of 100 mu g/mL, the MEB 6 week-cultivated extract was able to hamper free radicals (56%). Morphological and molecular analysis using 18S rRNA, ITS1 and ITS4 demonstrated that MFW 26-08 isolate was 99% similar to Aspergillus ustus.
