First draft genome sequence of the amylolytic Bacillus thermoamylovorans wild-type strain 1A1 isolated from a thermophilic biogas plant

•First Bacillus thermoamylovorans isolate from a thermophilic production-scale biogas plant.•The genome of B. thermoamylovorans 1A1 represents the first genome sequence for the species Bacillus thermoamylovorans.•Genes required for growth on cellobiose and encoding further carbohydrate active enzymes were identified. The moderately thermophilic, anaerobic bacterium Bacillus thermoamylovorans 1A1 (DSM 29353) was isolated from a biogas plant in Germany. It is able to grow efficiently on various carbohydrates such as starch, pectin or xylan. The draft genome sequence of B. thermoamylovorans 1A1 was established and provides the genetic basis for application of this microorganism in degradation of plant biomass.
