Lampadena anomala Parr (Myctophiformes, Myctophidae) in the NE Atlantic
Lampadena anomala Parr, 1928 is here reported for the first time from the NE Atlantic, i.e. the CLOFNAM/FNAM area (Hureau and Monod, 1973; Whitehead et al., 1984-1986). Five juvenile specimens were caught during midwater trawling, south of Madeira, by the British research vessel RRS "Challenger...

description | Lampadena anomala Parr, 1928 is here reported for the first time from the NE Atlantic, i.e. the CLOFNAM/FNAM area (Hureau and Monod, 1973; Whitehead et al., 1984-1986). Five juvenile specimens were caught during midwater trawling, south of Madeira, by the British research vessel RRS "Challenger" in October 1983. During the cruise two rectangular midwater trawls were used; one with a mouth area of 10 m super(2) (RMT-10), the other with a mouth area of 50 m super(2) (RMT-50). For some hauls the path of the net was illuminated by a forwardly directed electric spotlight mounted in the net mouth. Clarke and Pascoe (1985) give details of the design and operation of the nets. The collection data for the specimens of L. anomala are given below. It should be noted that the trawls were not fitted with an opening/closing mechanism and the depths quoted are the maximum depths reached, as indicated by a recording pressure gauge mounted in the mouth of the net. The specimens have been registered in the natural History collections of the National Museums of Scotland (NMSZ). |
