description Factors affecting the investment decision in energy-saving systems in Dutch horticulture, are investigated. The probit model is estimated using the Random Effect (RE) Maximum Likelihood estimation method. The results show that modernity of machinery and energy installations have a positive significant impact on the investment decision. The positive effect of the availability of a successor suggests that policy makers can encourage farmers to invest in energy-saving systems by stimulating firm succession. The results on firm type suggest that economic prospects play an important role in investment decisions. It is revealed that firm size has a crucial role in investment decisions. Large-scale firms have a larger probability of investing in energy-saving systems because of economies of scale.
