The management of forests on public land in the US has changed significantly in the past 20 years, providing important lessons for forest managers in Canada. Some of the management issues that have historical importance include clearcutting, intensive forestry on public lands, drops in timber production, the environmental movement and political impacts on forestry management, public opinion and forest harvesting, legal manipulations, community stabilization as a goal of management ecosystem management, and the application of good science.
