Temperature-Dependence of Ultraviolet Absorption Cross-Sections of Alternative Chlorofluoroethanes: 2. The 2-Chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane-HCFC-124

Zusammenfassung:The temperature-dependent UV absorption cross-sections of HCFC-124, a hydrochlorofluoroethane being considered as an alternative to conventional CFCs, were determined in the 170 230-nm range for temperatures of 210 295 K. Significant reduction in photodissociation coefficient was observed for HCFC-124 under these conditions. This effect could have minor atmospheric implications because HCFC-124 is largely destroyed in the troposphere by reaction with hydroxyl radicals.
