Fate of polybrominated biphenyls (PBB's) in soils. Retention of hexabromobiphenyl in four Michigan soils

Zusammenfassung:The adsorption of 2,2 ,4,4 5,5 hexabromobiphenyl for Michigan soils conformed well to a Freundlich adsorption isotherm. Adsorption of HBB increased with increasing soil organic carbon. Leaching studies using the same soils treated with 100 ppm HBB showed that less than 6% of HBB was lost from each soil with leachate quantities equivalent to 20 times the average annual rainfall in Michigan. Results suggest that HBB should not leach below the depth of incorporation.
