Zusammenfassung:Photochemical aerosol formation from organic compounds is investigated in an environmental chamber. Various classes of compounds are irradiated with nitrogen oxides, and light scattering caused by the aerosol is measured concurrently. Diolefins and cyclic olefins are very effective in reducing visibility, and monoolefins and aromatics produce only minimal amounts of light-scattering aerosol. Paraffins produce no measurable aerosol. The reactivity of diolefins is detailed.
