description The application of ionizing radiation for the preservation of food and food components has come into recognition with the advent of nuclear technology. The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the mutagenicity of irradiated glucose by the dominant lethal test in male mice. There were no significant differences in total implantation and survival rates between control and treated groups in post-meiotic and meiotic stages of spermatogenesis. The results obtained in the long-term studies with freshly irradiated glucose and stored irradiated glucose also revealed no variation in total implantation and survival rates between control and treated groups. The data clearly indicate the inability of irradiated glucose to induce dominant lethal mutations either by short- or long-term feeding.
